The reactionary war between Iran, the United States and Israel has intensified, spreading across the countries of the Persian Gulf. In recent days Israel has been targeted by missile attacks from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, while Iranian government buildings, cities and military facilities have been subjected to continuous bombardment by the United States and Israel. According to some reports, more than 150 primary school children were killed in Minab in a single attack – a crime that barely appeared amid the noise of wartime news.

To understand the meaning of this devastation, however, we must step back. The war now engulfing the Middle East is not a war between the people of Iran and the people of Israel, nor between Shia and Sunni, Arabs and Persians, Muslims and Jews. It is a war between capitalist states and imperialist blocs over power, energy and the global order.

The attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran, the assassination of the leader of the Islamic Republic, the bombing of cities and bases, and Iran’s missile retaliation against Israel, the Gulf states and US bases are all moments within the historical crisis of global capital that is driving the world toward regional and global wars.

Workers in Iran, Israel, Palestine, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Europe are the shared victims of this war.
